This New Model 1863 Sharps carbine is a fine, original percussion cavalry shortarm of the Civil War Union army. Bore with its six-groove rifling is shiny bright with no pitting. Breechblock operating lever mechanics are crisp. Serial number sharp and strongly stamped unto the upper plate tang. Maker markings and patent designations are clear. Metal surface of the carbine appear a mottled gray as does the butt plate. Lock screws are original and in good condition. Left side of forend at the tip shows a 2½” long crack. Major components have sub-inspector marks visible. Stock also retains some of the original grain feathering effect. Two, strong inspector cartouches at the sling bar area.
